New data illustrates what working families from Maine to Texas have been feeling since the Trump-GOP health care premium hikes hit on January 1: health care isn’t just more expensive this year. For millions of Americans, it’s downright unaffordable. 1.4 million people who used to buy coverage on their own have dropped their plans so far this year, while countless others are paying through the nose for inadequate coverage after premiums for their old plans doubled, tripled, and quadrupled. Throughout it all, Trump and his GOP allies in Congress have been sitting idly by, watching the wreckage from their Big, Ugly health care cuts pile up. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has a bill in front of him today that would end the Republican premium carnage by extending the tax credits that help nearly 22 million Americans afford health care. How many millions more will have to lose their coverage or their lives before Thune, Trump, and the out-of-touch Republican Party end their war on health care?
