With the passage of Trump and the GOP’s big, ugly bill, hospitals and care facilities around the country are preparing for the worst: service cuts, mass layoffs, or even closure. The Republican bill made the largest cuts to health care in history, by slashing Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act and ripping health care from 17 million Americans, in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy and big corporations. With Republicans’ massive cuts, cash-strapped health care centers, clinics, and nursing homes will lose critical revenue while dealing with greater costs from more uncompensated care. Seniors, people with disabilities, expectant mothers, and cancer patients will have to travel further to get care and endure longer wait times in overwhelmed emergency rooms. Hospital closures will lead to job cuts and hurt local economies, particularly in rural America. As these care facilities close, entire communities will be left without access to care, all so Trump and the Republicans could give more tax breaks to the rich.
