First Reported in Pulse, Protect Our Care is Kicking off Our Seven-Figure Campaign to Hold Trump and His Allies’ Feet to the Fire for Putting Hospitals in Crisis, Kicking Millions Out of Coverage, and Making Americans Sick Again.
Last week, Protect Our Care and Senator Murphy (D-CT) announced another dark milestone: over 750 hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other critical providers have closed, are at risk of closing, or have cut essential services because Trump and congressional Republicans gutted $1 trillion from Medicaid to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. In Mississippi, more than half of the state’s rural hospitals are on the cusp of disappearing from the communities they serve. In California, seven public health clinics are set to close their doors in Los Angeles alone. And the damage from Trump and Republicans siphoning Medicaid funding to pad the pockets of billionaire donors extends far beyond provider closures. In Idaho, Medicaid cuts forced the state to slash critical mental health services, and two patients have already died after losing access to care.
Trump didn’t utter a single sentence about communities losing their hospitals and clinics or his pitiful rural health fund at SOTU. But that doesn’t matter. Voters know who derangedly orchestrated the financial tsunami threatening critical providers. And for those who don’t, Protect Our Care will be sounding the alarm in our new, month-long, seven-figure campaign: “Technical Foul: The GOP’s Health Care Madness.”
