Republicans sent working people’s health care up in flames this summer when they cut $1 trillion from Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires. Now, as they dig in their heels to end health care tax credits for working families, polls are sounding a five-alarm fire for the GOP. The majority of Americans know that Republican health care cuts will cost millions of families their health insurance. Over 70 percent of Americans support keeping the working families’ tax credits that Republicans are determined to end – even if it means a longer government shutdown. And if those tax credits go away, polls show that voters will blame Donald Trump and his Republican allies for their skyrocketing premiums.
By setting working families’ health care ablaze, out-of-touch Republicans are playing with fire. Health care will be the central fight of the 2026 midterms, and it’s a fight the GOP is losing. Republicans started this fire. It’s up to them to put it out.
