Washington, D.C. – Today, Protect Our Care is releasing a new report and kicking off a nationwide month-long campaign detailing Republicans’ unprecedented attack on our nation’s health care. As Donald Trump and Republicans work overtime to cover up their record of trashing American health care to line the pockets of billionaires, Protect Our Care is turning up the heat with “Technical Foul: The GOP’s Health Care Madness,” a nationwide campaign holding Republicans accountable for their devastating cuts to health care. First reported in Pulse, the seven-figure campaign will hold Trump and Republicans accountable, calling out lawmakers who voted to take away health care and spike costs for millions of Americans. Throughout the month of March, Protect Our Care will spotlight real stories of people impacted by GOP cuts, including families likely to lose access to Medicaid, people experiencing premium hikes and higher prescription drug costs, and communities impacted by hospital closures. Protect Our Care will lead coordinated efforts across the country:

  • National events with political leaders, storytellers, and partner organizations
  • In-state events in Arizona, California, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin
  • Paid digital ads
  • Partnerships with creators and publishing Substack profiles of real people impacted by GOP cuts
  • New reports and state-by-state fact sheets

“What Republicans have done to undermine American health care in service of tax breaks for billionaires is sheer madness,” said Brad Woodhouse, President of Protect Our Care. “Families across the country are losing coverage, seeing their premiums skyrocket, and struggling to afford basic care, all while billionaires and corporations cash in. This campaign is only the beginning of our plans to shine a light on this ongoing war on health care and hold Republicans accountable before voters go to the ballot box in November.”

The campaign will include weeks of action highlighting what amounts to a Trump-GOP war on American health care:

  • March 2 – 6: Hospitals in Crisis
  • March 9 – 13: Trump and Republicans Coddling Big Pharma as Prescription Drug Prices Soar
  • March 16 – 20: Coverage Losses, Skimpy Plans, High Out-of-Pocket Costs
  • March 23 – 27: Premium Disaster Fueling America’s Affordability Crisis

As March marks the 16th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), it’s a stark reminder that the GOP’s health care madness is hurting the American people. Congressional Republicans made the largest health care cuts in history, gutting over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the ACA — all to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. The impact is devastating: 15 million Americans are losing coverage, premiums have skyrocketed for more than 20 million people, rural hospitals are cutting services or closing their doors, and too many families are being forced to choose between prescriptions, medical care, and other basic necessities.

Throughout the month of March, Protect Our Care and its sister organization, Save My Care, will hold the following Republicans accountable for the health care madness they have visited upon Americans with events, protests, op-eds, press conferences, and paid and organic digital campaigns:

KEY POINTS: GOP Health Care Madness

🏀 Doubling and tripling premiums for over 22 million hardworking Americans, including small business owners, farmers, and older adults.
🏀 Cuts over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the ACA to pay for handouts to the wealthiest Americans.
🏀 Threatening to shutter over 330 hospitals, 570 nursing homes, and hundreds of clinics across the country that rely on Medicaid funding to keep their doors open, forcing more Americans to travel further for maternity care and emergency rooms, and face longer wait times.
🏀 Giving away $9 billion to drug companies at Medicare’s expense, which will drive up the cost of prescription drugs for seniors and taxpayers.
🏀 Skyrocketing the burden of uncompensated care, which will likely shift billions of dollars in additional costs to people with employer-based coverage.
🏀 Sabotaging our nation’s public health, including by overruling experts on vaccine policy and replacing every member of the nation’s top national vaccine advisory panel.
