Washington, D.C. – Protect Our Care is launching new Spanish-language radio ads featuring a woman in the “sandwich generation” who is raising her own family and caring for her aging parents at the same time. She laments that without Medicaid, she doesn’t know how she would afford to take care of her parents. The ads will run on Spanish-language radio stations in seven Republican-held swing districts with significant Latino populations.

Last night, Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee released the text of their budget proposal, putting pen to paper on their plan to kick millions off their health care to fund tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations. Medicaid cuts could have devastating consequences for Latino families around the country, as Medicaid covers one in three Latinos and half of all Latino children. Polling suggests Latino voters have overwhelmingly favorable views of Medicaid and disapprove of Republicans’ plans to gut Medicaid.

“This Republican scheme would strip health insurance from millions of Latinos and take away their access to essential care, exacerbating health inequities and raising costs for working families at a time when too many struggle to make ends meet,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “These so-called moderate Republicans are betraying their own voters and straight up lying when they say that this will protect their health care. Families deserve better than that. Not one dollar should be taken from Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.”

This Spanish-language ad buy is part of Protect Our Care’s ongoing 10-million-dollar “Hands Off Medicaid” campaign. The latest campaign activities also include television and digital ads featuring a conservative voter and grandmother to a little boy with special needs, as well as Trump loyalist and MAGA cheerleader Steve Bannon warning Republicans.

The ads will launch in the following districts: David Schweikert (AZ-01), David Valadao (CA-22), Young Kim (CA-40), Ken Calvert (CA-41), Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), and Dan Newhouse (WA-04).

[English: I’m at that stage in life where I’m raising my own family and taking care of my parents. They worked hard their entire lives and now they live with us and receive in-home care, thanks to Medicaid.

So I get nervous when I hear Republicans in Congress, like Congressman David Valadao, are looking to make huge cuts to Medicaid. How on earth would we pay?

One in three Latinos rely on Medicaid right now, so this isn’t just about my family. It’s about millions of us.

The cost of everything is already so high. Could you imagine how much private insurance and long term care would cost for our parents on top of all that?

Our Congressman, David Schweikert, might be the deciding vote on cutting Medicaid. Call him at 202-225-2190.

Tell him to stand with our families and protect Medicaid.]
