This week, Protect Our Care held a thirteen-state and seventeen-event Stop the GOP War on Health Care Accountability Billboard and Event Blitz to hold GOP lawmakers accountable for their votes to throw the American health care system into chaos. This year, while in control of the House, Senate, and White House, Trump and Republicans decimated Medicaid to fund tax breaks for the ultra-rich, ripped Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits away from working families, and spearheaded the longest government shutdown in U.S. history so they could continue ignoring the needs of the American people.
Voters repudiated the GOP war on health care in the November 4th bellwether elections, electing Democrats who will protect health care and rejecting Republicans’ intent on taking it away. Now, as ACA open enrollment drags on and more Americans are finding that Republicans doubled or tripled their health insurance premiums for next year, Protect Our Care toured the country to remind GOP lawmakers that hard-working families want back the tax credits and Medicaid dollars Republicans stole from them to gift to billionaires.
