Insurance premiums are set to skyrocket in 2026 thanks to Donald Trump and Republicans’ devastating GOP budget bill that guts the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and rips away tax credits from hard-working families. But instead of warning families about the huge cost hikes headed their way, the Trump administration is covering them up. Per Inside Health Policy:

“Insurance premiums are expected to increase dramatically in 2026 due to higher rates and the pending loss of the enhanced premium tax credits but unlike in most years, many consumers won’t get information on how much their individual rates will increase this fall as CMS gave healthcare.gov plans flexibility to omit premium and tax credit data from the renewal notices.”

In response, Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse issued the following statement:

“The Trump administration knows premiums are about to skyrocket thanks to their own sabotage. Instead of coming clean, they’re covering it up and deceiving the American people. As a result, millions across the country won’t see how much more they’ll be expected to pay until it’s too late. Hard-working families will be forced to pay up or forego life-saving coverage. It’s all a calculated scheme to hide the crushing price hikes Trump and Republicans have caused by prioritizing tax breaks for billionaires instead of health care for everyday Americans.”

BACKGROUND

The GOP budget bill made the largest health care cuts in history, slashing over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act in order to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Because of these GOP policies, insurance companies have already indicated they plan to raise premiums for 24 million Americans by an average of 15 percent. At the same time, Republicans are ripping away tax credits from 20 million, forcing them to pay an average of 75 percent more for their coverage. These price hikes will cause countless hard-working families to lose life-saving coverage while millions more will suffer under the already-rising cost of living.
