All across the nation, the GOP’s assault on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits that over 22 million Americans relied on to afford coverage is rapidly unfolding with devastating consequences. After Republicans ripped away premium tax credits to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations, premiums have since skyrocketed by an average of 58%. Deductibles have risen by 37%, representing “the steepest increase in deductibles ever seen in this market.” Insurers are backing out of the ACA marketplace, leaving people with fewer and fewer options, and working families are being crushed by spiking health care costs, forced to either switch to riskier plans or priced off their coverage altogether.

The numbers speak for themselves. Nearly 400,000 Californians, 160,000 Pennsylvanians, 50,000 Arizonans, 92,000 Illinoisans, and countless more Americans in every corner of the country are losing their coverage. Emergency rooms in Indiana are being flooded by a double-digit percentage increase as more people become uninsured. Behind every number is a family trying to get by, a patient losing or delaying access to lifesaving treatment, and a child going without care.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of Republicans’ big, ugly bill, Protect Our Care will continue holding Republicans accountable for the health care bloodbath they created. Come November, voters will remember exactly who put their health care on the chopping block, and they will make their voices heard at the ballot box.
