This Week, Sen. Ossoff (D-GA), Reps. Dan Goldman (NY-10), Tom Suozzi (NY-03), Tim Kennedy (NY-26), Brendan Boyle (PA-02), Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI), and Former CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure Joined Protect Our Care to Demand That the GOP End Their Health Care Affordability Crisis
A chorus of outrage is crescendoing across the nation, slamming Trump and Republicans for doubling, tripling, and even quadrupling the health insurance premiums of hard-working people — all to dole out billionaire and big corporation tax breaks. While Trump kicks off his ‘Scam America’ Tour to continue gaslighting the American people, congressional Republicans remain off-pitch and out of sync on how to end their health care affordability crisis. Yesterday, Senate Republicans voted to rip away working people’s health care tax credits, bust the budgets of over 24 million Americans, and send hard-working Americans into crippling medical debt. Now, House Republicans are preparing to tag along, setting up the encore of the GOP’s assault against the nation’s health care system and screwing over the lives of everyday people. If they do so, they will join their Senate colleagues in infamy, ensuring millions of Americans get thwacked with unaffordable, gut-wrenching health care hikes.
While Republicans continue toiling to enrich their donors, Protect Our Care held events in a 7-state blitz — headlined by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, Representatives Dan Goldman, Tom Suozzi, Tim Kennedy, Brendan Boyle, Governor Tony Evers, and former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure — to demand that the GOP end their assault on working people’s health care. Protect Our Care will continue to cut through the cacophony of billionaire interests in D.C., ensuring the melody of working people’s health care is heard loud and clear.
ARIZONA
Open Enrollment Event with Former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure and Health Care Advocates
“No one in Arizona or this country should have to forgo health coverage because it is too costly,” said Chiquita Brooks-LaSure. “And no one should face financial strains on their business due to skyrocketing premiums. People across this country deserve a health care system that is both affordable and accessible rather than a health care system that forces them to choose between coverage or affording their groceries.”

GEORGIA
Open Enrollment Event with Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and Health Care Advocates
“I heard just a few days ago from a constituent in the middle of chemotherapy. She’s fighting breast cancer. She waits tables for a living. If Republicans allow these tax credits to expire, she will not be able to afford her health insurance. She will lose her health coverage in the middle of chemotherapy. That is devastating and unacceptable. And there are many Georgians and many Americans in similar situations,” said Senator Jon Ossoff.

IOWA
Open Enrollment Event with Former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure and Health Care Advocates
“No one in Iowa or anywhere in the US should have to forego health coverage because it is too costly,” said Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, Former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator. “People across this country deserve a health care system that is both affordable and accessible, rather than a healthcare system that forces them to choose between coverage or affording their groceries. Yet, the Republican tax law and congressional Republicans’ decisions not to renew the critical health insurance tax credits for marketplace enrollees have sent us down a trajectory that will force millions of people to face this reality.”

NEW YORK
Open Enrollment Event with Congressmen Dan Goldman, Tom Suozzi, Tim Kennedy, and New York Health Care Advocates
“For thousands of New Yorkers, the ACA’s premium tax credits are not just numbers on a page – they are what keep families healthy and financially secure,” said Representative Tim Kennedy. “Without these protections, people across our state and our nation will face devastating increases in their monthly premiums, forcing impossible choices about their care. Sharing these stories today reminds us all that health care access is about real people and real families. We must act now to protect these credits and ensure that every New Yorker can get the coverage they deserve.”

Health Care Accountability Event With Health Care Advocates and Impacted Ohioans Targeting GOP Senator Jon Husted
“As a restaurant owner, the Affordable Care Act tax credits have been a lifeline for me and my staff,” said Emily Mendenhall, a Dayton small business owner. “Now, thanks to Jon Husted’s votes, our premiums are doubling and tripling next year. I’m not sure how many of my employees will be able to afford their health insurance, and Senator Husted is doing nothing about it.”

PENNSYLVANIA
Health Care Accountability Event with Congressman Brendan Boyle (PA-02)
“It’s interesting. Just days ago, Donald Trump said affordability was a con job. Well, it turns out the real con was Donald Trump promising he would lower costs on day one,” said Congressman Boyle. “Throughout last year in the campaign, from Northeastern PA, to Southwestern PA, to my area in the Philadelphia area, up to Erie and every county in between, Donald Trump said he would lower costs for Pennsylvanians and for Americans. Well, in office, not only has he failed to do that, he’s done the exact opposite. First, his tariff policies have ensured that costs are higher today and inflation is increasing versus where it was when he took office. Second, specifically to health care, Donald Trump pushed through his tax bill. He used to call it the big, beautiful bill, but it is now so deeply unpopular, he doesn’t even talk about it anymore.”

WISCONSIN
Open Enrollment Event with Governor Tony Evers and Health Care Advocates
“These tax credits are not luxuries – they are lifelines that make the difference between kids, families, and communities getting care and going without it,” said Governor Evers. “In 2025, 88 percent of Wisconsinites enrolled in coverage on HealthCare.gov qualified for these tax credits, saving an average of $664 a month. And without these enhanced tax credits, healthcare premiums for Wisconsinites are going to skyrocket.”
