Washington, D.C. – Today, Protect Our Care is releasing a new report detailing the hell Republicans faced over the summer as a result of the GOP’s big, ugly bill. Everywhere they went, people were angry about their vote to rip away health care and devastating headlines and plummeting poll numbers dogged Republicans all summer long. More than 15 million Americans will lose their health care, while costs skyrocket for millions more, just to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. The report comes as part of Protect Our Care’s Accountability Autumn campaign.

At town halls and community meetings, constituents spoke up with frustration, anger, and disbelief. Journalists and everyday Americans wrote articles and letters to the editor. Headlines highlighted the consequences of the draconian cuts as hospitals and clinics from coast to coast reduce services, lay off workers, or close their doors, and premium costs skyrocket because of GOP policies. Poll after poll revealed just how unpopular the GOP health care agenda is across party lines. In other words, Republicans had a “Summer From Hell.”

“Republicans had a summer from hell because the American people are fed up with their war on health care,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “At every turn, they were met with anger and frustration from hard-working families who refuse to sit quietly while their coverage is threatened and their costs skyrocket. They are done with being sacrificed so billionaires and big corporations can get another handout. The backlash Republicans faced this summer is just the beginning. The heat will be just as bad in Washington, D.C.”
