Washington, D.C. – One year after Donald Trump returned to the White House, Protect Our Care is releasing a report detailing Republicans’ unprecedented attacks on American health care over the past 365 days. Trump and Congressional Republicans have made the largest health care cuts in history and ripped away the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, all to fund massive tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. The impact has been immediate and devastating: over 15 million Americans are at risk of losing coverage, premiums have skyrocketed, hospitals are closing or cutting essential services, and hard-working families are being forced to choose between paying more for worse coverage or risk going uninsured altogether. At the same time, Trump’s HHS Secretary, RFK Jr., has undermined American public health, weakening guidance and protections that families rely on to stay healthy.
Public frustration is growing. Polling shows widespread disapproval of Republicans’ health care agenda from Medicaid cuts to ending the ACA tax credits. A new CNN poll shows 58% of Americans believe the first year of Trump’s term is a “failure.” With premiums rising and coverage disappearing, voters are sending a clear warning that they will hold Republicans accountable at the ballot box.
