Washington, D.C. – House Republicans passed their short-term funding continuing resolution (CR) that continues down the same path of causing chaos and destruction of American health care. Donald Trump and Republicans are raising costs on everyday Americans who are already struggling to stay afloat. Now, Republicans are threatening to shut down the government unless they can slash Medicaid to the bone and end health insurance tax credits for working people.
If they are successful, 24 million Americans who buy insurance on their own will see their premiums skyrocket, with most families paying up to 90 percent more for their health care. Democrats have made clear that they are eager to vote for a budget that does not cause the American people more pain. With Republicans in full control of the government, the choice is up to them: shut it down or protect American families from more harm.
“Donald Trump and Republicans are willing to burn the house down if it means ripping health care away from the American people,” said Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach. “They are hurling us towards a shutdown to pass a bill that worsens their health care crisis and locks in over $1 trillion in cuts to health care, all to serve their extreme political agenda and fund tax breaks for billionaires. Calling this a ‘clean’ CR is a lie. A budget that raises costs and cuts care for hard-working families is dirty, dangerous, and dead wrong. Democrats once again showed they will continue to fight for accessible and affordable health care.”
