Trump and congressional Republicans ransacked over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Now, the consequences are rippling across the nation. In California, state officials are warning rural Californians to brace for devastating job losses and skyrocketing medical bills. In Wisconsin, Milwaukee residents held a resource fair to assist locals scrambling for care after a long-standing community clinic was forced to close its doors. In Virginia, one-third of the state’s rural hospitals are at either “immediate risk of closure” or “at risk of closure.”
Since Trump and Republicans rammed their callous health care cuts through Congress, over 900 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers nationwide have shuttered, are at risk of closing, or have cut essential services families rely on. Every provider forced to close its doors will upend the lives of Americans of every stripe — from expectant moms pushed into maternity care deserts, to seniors kicked out of their nursing homes, and to rural Americans forced to embark on excruciating journeys for life-saving care. Come November, voters at the ballot box won’t forget that Republicans orchestrated this madness to make their rich donors richer.
