Washington D.C. – In the administration’s latest insult to MAHA moms, the Trump EPA is reportedly pressuring its scientists to “alter safety reviews of chemicals commonly found in consumer products like household cleaners and cosmetics to make risks to human health and the environment disappear on paper” after Donald Trump installed “former chemical industry insiders and lobbyists to lead key agency offices overseeing chemical regulation.” And to inject even more systematic racism often seen from the administration, “scientists are also being told to stop considering the impact a chemical may have on specific racial groups.”
The revelations come on the heels of other major gifts from Trump to his chemical industry megadonors at the expense public health and at odds with MAHA’s agenda, including a major rollback of Biden-era restrictions on ‘forever chemicals’ in drinking water linked to cancer, and an Executive Order to help drum up production of glyphosate, the key ingredient in Roundup herbicide that’s also been repeatedly linked to cancer. It’s not just Trump: A recent CREW report found ‘sixteen Trump-appointed EPA officials were paid more than $2.8 million by chemical companies and trade groups before they joined the agency that oversees the industry.’
“Over and over again, Donald Trump lets his chemical industry donors write their own rules even if it means poisoning the public, misleading consumers, and pissing off the moms who supported him. So many promises made to MAHA by Trump and his cabinet to “fix” corporate influence over our health quickly turned into profiles in corruption that made matters worse,” said Kayla Hancock, Director of Protect Our Care’s Public Health Project.”
