Today, Protect Our Care is holding events in Wisconsin and Colorado with U.S. Senators Baldwin (D-WI), Hickenlooper (D-CO), Representatives Crow (D-CO-06), Pettersen (D-CO-07), health care leaders, and advocates to sound the alarm on the nationwide Republican health care crisis. Less than one year after Trump and Republicans in Congress gutted $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations, over 1,000 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers have closed, are at risk of closure or cuts, or have cut essential services families rely on.
The fallout of Republicans gutting working people’s health care to pad the pockets of billionaires is devastating communities across America — including in the Badger and Centennial States. Expectant Wisconsin moms are losing access to maternity care and facing the harrowing reality of delivering babies in overcrowded and underfunded emergency rooms. Rural Coloradans are bracing for their local hospital to vanish, forcing them to travel hours for life-saving care. Nationwide, families are confronting longer waits, fewer providers, and growing uncertainty about whether care will be there when they need it most.
During the call, speakers will warn of the devastating consequences to come in the months and years ahead. Come November, voters will hold Trump and Republicans in Congress to account for manufacturing this crisis to make their rich donors richer.
