Washington D.C. – In the case of Monsanto Company v. Durnell, the U.S. Supreme Court today ruled in favor of industry and the Trump administration, effectively granting big chemical manufacturers immunity from liability claims involving the cancer-linked glyphosate chemical found in Roundup pesticides. Even as MAHA leaders voiced extreme opposition to letting industry off the hook, the Trump Justice Department filed an amicus brief in support of Monsanto – now owned by Bayer — and Trump’s Principal Deputy Solicitor General argued alongside the chemical maker in court.
“First Donald Trump signed an executive order plowing the field for increased glyphosate production despite the known health risks to help grow profits for his chemical industry donors, said Kayla Hancock, Director of Protect Our Care’s Public Health Project. “Then Trump dispatched his DOJ lawyers to help Big Chemical secure blanket immunity from at least 100,000 glyphosate-related liability claims. Sadly, the Supreme Court agreed to give glyphosate makers a free pass to poison Americans without warning. Donald Trump always has and always will prioritize big money corporate interests that benefit him, even if it means marginalizing the MAHA movement and concerned moms. And whenever Trump sells out public health to the highest industry bidder, there’s no bigger apologist than his phony health secretary, RFK Jr.”
Protect Our Care continues to document the many ways Donald Trump has done the bidding of his industry megadonors at the expense of MAHA’s agenda, including a major rollback of Biden-era restrictions on ‘forever chemicals’ in drinking water linked to cancer.
