Premium Disaster Watch: “This Isn’t Sustainable”: Republican Cuts Are Driving Up Health Care Costs Across the Board

After Republicans ripped away tax credits from millions of working families across the nation, premiums have skyrocketed and more than 8 million people have lost their health care — and it’s only going to get worse. In Georgia alone, 350,000 people dropped their ACA coverage as costs rose, while the Congressional Budget Office expects a total of nearly 16 million more people nationwide to be uninsured by 2034 thanks to the GOP health care cuts. After watching their premiums more than double this year, families purchasing coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are once again set to see premiums rise by an average of 15%. In states like Georgia and Washington, families are bracing for premium increases of over 20%. And it’s not just people getting coverage through the ACA; because of Donald Trump and Republicans, everyone, everywhere, will pay higher costs. Families that rely on employer-sponsored health care will face double-digit cost hikes in 2027, and major companies are already considering changes to their 2027 health benefits to offset rising plan costs. Every day that premiums continue to rise and workers lose benefits, working families across the nation pay the price for Republicans’ health care betrayal.
