Today, while speaking from Rome, Georgia, about the state of the American economy, Donald Trump spouted lie after lie about his so-called efforts to bring down drug prices. Let’s be clear: the Inflation Reduction Act, which Trump did everything to stop after it passed without a single Republican vote, is bringing down drug prices for Americans struggling to pay Big Pharma’s exorbitant prices for lifesaving medications. Trump has done nothing but take credit for those savings while schmoozing Big Pharma executives and cutting deals that pad big business’s pockets while pickpocketing the American people. Even his “Trump Rx” program is just a scam to make working people think he’s saving them money while Big Pharma laughs all the way to the bank. Seniors and working families deserve better than Donald Trump’s drug pricing deceptions.

FACT CHECK

LIE: Trump brought down drug prices for seniors on Medicare.
TRUTH: The Inflation Reduction Act, which passed without a single Republican vote, allowed Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors and is now saving seniors and taxpayers billions. Trump opposed the bill and actively fought its implementation. His Big, Ugly Bill is costing seniors and taxpayers billions by delaying Medicare from negotiating lower prices on many of the most popular and expensive cancer treatments.

LIE: TrumpRx is saving working families money on their prescription medications.
TRUTH: For many families, especially those with health insurance, purchasing medications through TrumpRx is actually more expensive than other alternatives. TrumpRx doesn’t include cheaper generic versions of many popular drugs, and it doesn’t allow patients to count their purchases toward their insurance deductibles.

LIE: Trump wants to improve health care and reduce costs for everyday Americans.
TRUTH: Trump puts drugmakers and big corporations above everyday people at every opportunity. He entertained drug company CEOs at his Mar-a-Lago resort, solicited millions in donations, then spent the past year handsomely rewarding Big Pharma for their support. Meanwhile, his war on health care is spiking health care costs and ripping away insurance coverage for millions of working families.
