Washington, D.C. – This week, millions of hard-working Americans — including Arizonans, North Carolinians, Ohioans, Texans, Floridians, and West Virginians — who buy health insurance on their own through the Affordable Care Act are experiencing the Republican health care betrayal firsthand as they preview their health insurance premiums for 2026 through the HealthCare.gov online window shopping portal. They are part of the over 20 million people across the country facing massive health insurance premium increases for next year because Donald Trump and Republicans committed the ultimate betrayal: gutting the nation’s health care infrastructure to fund tax breaks for billionaires and shutting down the government to rip away tax credits for everyday working people.

“Republicans control the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives, and what did they do with this power? They committed the ultimate betrayal,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “ Republicans used all that power to shut down the government and ensure everyday Americans are slapped with skyrocketing health insurance premiums. The American people no longer have to guess just how much this treachery will cost them. They can now log onto a computer and witness this historic betrayal firsthand.”

Background

Americans don’t have to guess how much the GOP’s health care betrayal is costing them. On October 28th, HealthCare.gov launched its online window shopping tool, where hard-working families across 30 states can compare their monthly premiums for next year with and without the health care tax credits that Donald Trump and Republicans shut down the government to strip them of.
