This week, Representative Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), storytellers, and advocates will turn up the heat on Republicans as part of Protect Our Care’s “GOP Hot Seat Summer” — the latest phase of the “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” campaign — with five events in four states. As Republicans in Congress try to dodge their constituents during August recess, this multi-month effort is giving voice to the millions of Americans rightfully sick of Trump and Republicans in Congress gutting our health care. Community leaders, advocates, and other speakers will put lawmakers on the hot seat, demanding they answer for their votes and deliver real solutions to lower costs, reduce barriers to care, and fix our broken health care system.
Hard-working people are fed up with the growing health care crisis after Trump and Republicans slashed more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and gutted Affordable Care Act tax credits to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Since then, more than eight million people have lost the coverage they relied on to see a doctor when they’re sick, while costs have skyrocketed for millions more. Over 1,100 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other providers are closing, cutting essential services, or facing the risk of closure or cuts. Republicans can run to closed-door fundraisers, but they can’t hide from the consequences of their vote, and this week, they’ll feel the heat.
