***MEDIA ADVISORY FOR WEDNESDAY, June 17, 2026 AT 2:00 PM ET***
Washington, D.C. – Tomorrow, June 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), health care leaders, and advocates will join Protect Our Care to hold Trump and congressional Republicans’ feet to the fire for looting more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations on Wall Street. In the wake of these health care cuts, over 1,000 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers nationwide have closed, are at risk of closure or cuts, or are cutting essential services families depend on.
Less than one year after the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, the human toll of Trump and Republicans’ corrupt decision to gut working people’s health care and siphon off those funds to billionaires and wealthy donors is already being felt in communities across America. Rural Americans are bracing for their local hospital to vanish, forcing them to travel hours for life-saving care. Expectant moms are losing access to maternity care and facing the nightmarish reality of delivering their babies in overcrowded and underfunded emergency rooms. Families are confronting longer waits, fewer providers, and growing uncertainty about whether care will be there when they need it most.
Speakers will warn of the devastating consequences to come in the months and years ahead, and make clear to the American people exactly who is responsible. At the ballot box in November, voters will remember who did this — who is responsible for their local hospital down the street forced to close its doors, who orchestrated the care they relied on to disappear overnight, and who put tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations over their families’ health and well-being.
