DULLES, Va. — On Day 8 of Protect Our Care’s “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” bus tour, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam and Senator Kannan Srinivasan will join 32BJ SEIU airport service workers, storytellers and health care advocates for an event at Dulles Airport calling out Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress for taking a wrecking ball to our health care system. Across the country, hard-working families are fed up with the growing health care crisis after Trump and Republicans in Congress slashed more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and gutted Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
Health care affordability has become the defining issue leading up to the November elections. Recent polling from Navigator and KFF found that the cost of health care is the top concern for families going into November’s midterms, with over half of voters considering it extremely important for candidates to discuss health care costs.
Many airport service workers – including baggage handlers and wheelchair agents — rely on Medicaid or go uninsured because they do not have access to affordable health care through their jobs.
Care Force One is making nearly 40 stops across four weeks, taking the fight directly to communities where families are hit hardest by rising health care costs and coverage losses. Every stop will feature real stories of people impacted by Republican cuts to health care, and speakers will call on lawmakers to enact commonsense health care solutions, including restoring tax credits to lower insurance premiums, reversing devastating Medicaid cuts, expanding Medicare’s power to negotiate lower prices for more drugs and extending those lower prices to all Americans with insurance, penalizing drug companies that raise prices faster than inflation, and protecting patients from high costs by extending the annual $2,000 out-of-pocket cap and the $35 insulin co-pay cap to people with private coverage.
The tour will continue later in the day with a 3:30 p.m. stop in Williamsburg, Va. that will be headlined by Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan.
