After Donald Trump and Republicans slashed more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, the largest health care cuts in history, the fallout is spiraling. Republicans ignited a cascade of closures and service cuts that is reaching every corner of the country. Protect Our Care has tracked over 1,100 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other providers that are closing, cutting essential services, or facing the risk of closure or cuts. Rural hospitals are being pushed to the brink, maternity care deserts are expanding, and communities are losing access to the doctors, nurses, and health care services they depend on.
Health care leaders on the front line are sounding the alarm. In Indiana, HealthLinc CEO Melissa Mitchell warned, “Medicaid cuts are killing us,” noting previously financially stable providers are making cuts, laying off staff, and closing their doors. As more Americans lose coverage and providers struggle to stay afloat, the nation’s health care crisis is growing worse by the day.
Protect Our Care’s Hospital Crisis Watch tracks every closure, every cut, and every community left behind after Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress gutted American health care to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires.
