Rural hospitals are on the brink and the crisis is only getting worse as Republican health care cuts ripple across the country. During a recent hearing, HHS Secretary RFK Jr. promoted Trump’s abysmal rural health fund as a solution. But that doesn’t match the reality. The meager fund fails to scratch the surface after Trump and Republicans gutted over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
Over 800 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers nationwide are shuttering, at risk of shuttering, or cutting essential services, and the human toll is quickly mounting. For communities that rely on these providers, that means longer drives, fewer options, and delayed care. This is the hospital crisis Republicans created, and no amount of spin can cover up the damage being done.
