First reported by CNN, Protect Our Care Launches Campaign Channeling the Frustration of Everyday Americans and Calling on Lawmakers to Listen
Washington, D.C. – This week, Protect Our Care is launching our largest grassroots campaign to date with a simple, urgent message from the American people: enough is enough. “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” is a multi-month effort channeling the frustration of millions of Americans across parties who are fed up with a health care system that has been wrecked by Donald Trump and Republicans for no other reason than to give tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations. Working alongside state and national partners, the campaign will mobilize communities across the country through town halls, storytelling, digital engagement and advertising, and events to hold Republicans accountable for their devastating health care cuts. We’re bringing the people’s top issue directly to lawmakers to make health care more affordable, accessible, and equitable in 2027 and beyond.
The campaign will kick off this summer with nationwide events in over a dozen key states and culminate in a coast-to-coast bus tour in the fall, bringing together providers, patients, advocates, and families to demand action. In November, voters will have the opportunity to make their voices heard on the issues that matter the most to them and their families. Throughout the campaign, Protect Our Care will showcase hundreds of stories from Americans harmed by Republicans hiking costs and cutting health care through empty-chair town halls, petition deliveries, and community actions.
Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse released the following statement:
“Americans are sick of it. Sick of paying more and getting less. Sick of watching their health care costs rise year after year. Sick of choosing between paying for prescriptions and paying their bills. Sick of worrying that one illness or accident could leave their family buried in debt or have a loved one kicked out of a nursing home. After cutting more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers have made their priorities crystal clear: tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations matter more than protecting Americans’ health care.
“‘Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now’ is about giving voice to the millions of Americans who are fed up with a health care system that keeps getting more expensive, and the lawmakers who keep making it worse. Over the coming months, we’ll organize, mobilize, and amplify the stories of people who are worried sick over the state of their health care. The frustration is growing, and the consequences are deadly. But the message from the American people is simple: we’re sick of it. It’s time to fix health care now.”
Protect Our Care’s “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” campaign will include:
- Partnerships with allied organizations at the national, state, and local levels.
- Nationwide kickoff events demanding action to lower costs and protect health care.
- Storytelling campaigns and tours showcasing the insights and experiences of hundreds of patients, families, caregivers, and providers.
- Community events in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin, including:
- Empty-chair town halls targeting lawmakers who voted for health care cuts and refuse to answer for the consequences.
- Petition drop-offs and direct accountability actions.
- Digital outreach, including partnerships with creators.
- Paid advertising across multiple channels.
- New reports, state-by-state fact sheets, and rapid-response materials documenting the harmful impact of the cuts.
- A coast-to-coast bus tour hearing directly from communities facing skyrocketing costs and coverage losses, and learning from families about the solutions they want to see.
The campaign is calling on lawmakers to take immediate action on commonsense solutions that Americans are asking for, including:
- Lower health care costs so everyone can afford the care they need and that their doctor recommends, no matter where they live or how much they make.
- Lower premium costs by restoring the Affordable Care Act tax credits Republicans ripped away that help millions of working families, small business owners, farmers, gig workers, and seniors afford quality health coverage.
- Reverse Republicans’ Medicaid cuts and protect health care for children, seniors, people with disabilities, and families while strengthening rural hospitals, nursing homes, and community health centers.
- Lower prescription drug costs by expanding Medicare drug price negotiations beyond Medicare so every American can benefit from lower prices.
Protect Our Care will continue working with patients, providers, and advocates across the country to ensure affordable health care is a right, not a privilege. This year’s campaign will fuel our work to guarantee that health care is affordable, available, and equitable for all Americans in 2027 and beyond. “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” is just the beginning.

By the Numbers
Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress:
- Cut more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
- Ripped away health care tax credits that over 22 million families relied on to afford coverage, all to pay for tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
Now, across the country, a full-blown health care crisis is unfolding:
- Nearly 15 million Americans are set to lose coverage.
- Over 8 million have already lost life-saving coverage.
- Premiums and out-of-pocket costs have skyrocketed while insurance companies have pulled out of markets, reducing choices and leaving families scrambling to find affordable coverage.
- Over 1,000 rural hospitals, nursing homes, and community health centers have been pushed to the brink, with many cutting services or shutting their doors entirely.
No corner of the country will be spared from the damage caused by Republicans’ reckless and deeply unpopular cuts.
