New Yorkers Face Higher Costs, Lost Coverage, and Closing Hospitals After Mike Lawler Voted for the Largest Health Care Cuts in History
Washington, D.C. — Mike Lawler, who two weeks ago marched down to Texas to hang out with his cuddle-buddy Donald Trump, is a toady for a president who ripped health care away from the sick and the dying to give tax breaks to billionaires. During his time in Congress, Lawler has repeatedly sold out New Yorkers for the interests of billionaires and big corporations. Last year, he voted with Donald Trump and other Congressional Republicans to slash more than $1 trillion from health care to bankroll tax breaks for the ultrawealthy. They also ended the ACA premium tax credits that made coverage affordable for 22 million people — forcing working families to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars more on their monthly premiums. Now, more than half a million New Yorkers have lost their Medicaid, CHIP, or ACA coverage, and it’s only getting worse. New York hospitals, nursing homes, community health centers, and other providers are facing mounting pressure, and in NY-17, two hospitals are at risk of cuts or closure after Mike Lawler’s vote sparked a health care crisis.

He has plunged New York families into a health care crisis, forcing families into bankruptcy to keep up with rising costs while pushing hospitals, clinics, and essential providers to the brink. He’s a partisan hack and a disgrace to those in his district who need affordable access to health care, but he won’t be able to outrun his record in November.”
