America is in a health care crisis. Every single day, GOP cuts to health care are forcing working Americans to drop their coverage, struggle to afford their premiums, or take on extra jobs to make ends meet. The unmistakable evidence the GOP is ripping health care away from millions of working Americans continues to accrue. At the end of open enrollment, 1.2 million fewer Americans could afford coverage after Trump and Republicans in Congress gutted the tax credits that made health care affordable, all to bankroll tax breaks for the wealthy. The number of people losing coverage is piling up and climbing into the millions in light of widespread coverage cancellations, insurers reporting huge losses in enrollment, and new data reported by the media that the Trump administration is withholding from the American public. Here are the facts:
GOP premium hikes:
- Doubled and tripled premiums for millions of hardworking Americans, including small business owners, farmers, and older adults;
- Robbed 11 million low-income Americans of zero-dollar premiums;
- Ripped away tax credits entirely from over one million middle class Americans;
- Funneled millions of families into reduced coverage that will force them to pay thousands more each year in health care costs;
- Pressured countless families to cut back on food, clothing, and other basics to afford health insurance and greater out-of-pocket costs
…all to bankroll hundreds of billions in tax breaks for billionaires and corporations.
Now, health care is out of reach for millions because Trump put wealthy donors first:
- More than 1 in 5 Americans who enrolled through HealthCare.gov could not afford their premiums and have had their coverage ripped away;
- 900,000 Americans were forced to drop their coverage in state-based marketplaces between January and March, cancellations are up 24 percent from last year;
- 1.2 million fewer Americans enrolled in marketplace coverage in 2026 than in 2025;
- The largest carrier on the marketplace reported ACA membership is down two million from a year ago;
- Another major carrier reported enrollment is down 17 percent across their ACA plans;
- Nearly a dozen insurers were forced out of marketplaces across the country;
- 1 in 3 Americans are skipping meals and other needs to afford health care;
…and this is just the beginning.
The full scale of the Trump-GOP premium disaster will become clear as:
- Coverage losses pile up from the 9 million people who were auto-renewed into plans they may not be able to afford;
- More families are forced to choose between groceries and paying their premiums and realize they can no longer afford health care if they want to keep food on the table.
- Huge declines in effectuated enrollment are reported after families are unable to stretch their budgets to cover both GOP health care hikes and the cost of Trump tariffs.
