Millions of Americans are caught between a rock and a hard place — forced to choose between putting food on the table, keeping a roof over their heads, or paying soaring health insurance premiums. This is a direct result of Trump and congressional Republicans ripping away the tax credits that over 22 million Americans relied on to see a doctor when they’re sick, all to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. As a result, premiums have more than doubled on average, and the human toll is quickly mounting. Ohioans like Sarah from Lima are being forced to go without coverage because it’s simply unaffordable. Californians like Maddie from San Clemente are fleeing to Mexico to see pediatricians, specialists, and dentists. Nebraskans like farmer Ben from Humboldt are being forced to pay what amounts to a second mortgage each month for coverage, or risk an accident while tending the field wiping out their life savings.

Already, a new report shows that one in seven who buy insurance on their own has missed their first premium payment. They are the millions of Sarahs, Maddies, and Bens whom Trump and congressional Republicans have forced to make impossible decisions. They lie awake at night with a gnawing fear of what their future holds, grappling with what they had to sacrifice today just to maintain the coverage that keeps them alive and healthy tomorrow. And at the ballot box in November, they won’t forget who is responsible for orchestrating their pain to make the rich richer.
