Washington, D.C. – New data shows that one in seven Americans who enrolled in Affordable Care Act coverage have not paid their premiums for 2026 after Republicans ripped away the health care tax credits that helped millions of families afford coverage to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.

More than one million Americans were forced to drop ACA coverage entirely, and it will continue to snowball month after month as the Trump-GOP premium hikes become unbearable for more and more families. Wakely Consulting Group has estimated that ACA enrollment will drop by between 17% and 26%. In response, Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse issued the following statement:

“This is a crisis that’s getting worse every day because Republicans ripped away the help people depend on to afford quality health care. Americans are getting crushed under the weight of skyrocketing premiums, and families are being slammed with bills they simply cannot pay. At the same time, everything else is expensive too — groceries, gas, utilities — leaving no room in household budgets to absorb another hit. This means impossible choices every month: keep coverage or pay rent, fill the fridge, or have childcare. This is not a slow squeeze — it’s an electric shock to already stretched budgets. People are falling behind, losing coverage, and going without care because they can’t afford health care that Republicans made more expensive.”
