In Trump’s health care remarks, he won’t say one crucial fact: Millions of Americans are being forced to choose between putting food on the table, keeping a roof over their heads, or paying skyrocketing health premiums. When Trump and congressional Republicans ripped away the tax credits that more than 22 million Americans depended on to see a doctor when they’re sick, they made a choice. They decided to put millions of Americans — seniors, farmers, small business owners, working families — on the chopping block to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
Now, the fallout of this betrayal is rippling throughout the nation. In Georgia, more than a million were priced out of the coverage that keeps them alive and healthy. In Arizona, 65,000 lost coverage. In New Jersey, 69,000 lost coverage. These figures will only grow as Republican premium hikes become unbearable for more and more families. Each number represents someone who was pushed out of coverage so the GOP can enrich their donors — someone who lies awake at night with a gnawing fear of what they have to sacrifice today just to maintain the coverage that keeps them alive and healthy tomorrow. And in November, they’ll be the millions at the ballot box holding Trump and Republicans to account for orchestrating this madness.
