New State-by-State Fact Sheets Expose the Cost of Republicans’ $1 Trillion Health Care Vote
Throughout the month of August, Protect Our Care took the fight directly to Republicans’ home districts, holding 21 events across 14 states as part of “GOP Hot Seat Summer,” a nationwide push within our multi-month “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” campaign. As members of Congress headed home for August recess, Protect Our Care and partners made sure Republicans could not hide from the consequences of their vote to rip $1 trillion from health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. From empty-chair town halls calling out Republicans who refused to face their constituents to roundtables bringing together voices from communities across the country, Americans made clear they are sick of Republicans’ attacks on their health care. Protect Our Care amplified the voices of people facing higher costs, lost coverage, and a health care system being pushed out of reach by Donald Trump and Republicans — and put the members of Congress responsible in the hot seat.

In Virginia Beach, Virginia, advocates, storytellers, and constituents of Rep. Jen Kiggans joined Protect Our Care for a “Cardboard Jen Kiggans” town hall. Rep. Kiggans does not hold public, in-person town halls and did not respond to our invitation to attend this town hall, so constituents shared their stories with a cardboard cut-out of Rep. Kiggans about how her votes have driven up their costs and ripped away their health care.
Also, in Virginia, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), former Congressman Tom Perriello, and health care advocates joined Protect Our Care to share their health care stories and why they are sick of it.

In Atlanta, Georgia, storytellers and advocates gathered for a roundtable discussion after the Trump administration announced that it is ending a key Medicare Part D subsidy that helps seniors afford prescriptions. Georgia seniors told their own stories of how they’re sick of rising costs.
