Washington, D.C. — On the heels of Protect Our Care’s successful stops through Ohio, Donald Trump is headed to Chillicothe for a last-ditch rally to win back voters’ support ahead of the midterms. While Trump tries to make his case to voters, Ohioan families are dealing with the consequences of his, Jon Husted’s, and Republicans’ actions firsthand.
Jon Husted happily voted in step with Trump and Congressional Republicans to gut Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations last year. Since then, nearly 400,000 Ohioans have lost their health care coverage, while families who relied on the tax credits Republicans gutted have been slammed with estimated average premium increases of 137% this year alone. Ohio hospitals are projected to lose $22.4 billion over the next decade, putting even more pressure on a health care system already stretched thin. Now, 40 hospitals and health care providers across the state have reportedly shuttered their doors, announced closure, or have been identified as at risk of doing so after Husted’s vote sparked a health care crisis. “Trump must think the people of Ohio are complete idiots if he believes one campaign rally can erase the damage his administration and MAGA cultists in Congress have done to their health care,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “Make no mistake, this is a health care election, and Donald Trump knows Republicans don’t stand a chance. He can’t defend people’s health care, but he can stand behind Ramaswamy’s disgraceful ad platforming a child rapist defender? Got it. With just over a week until the polls open, Ohio families are sick of this administration’s desperate attempts to win them over while their premiums are being ripped out from under them. What Ohio families really need are leaders who aren’t going to blindside them, boot them from their coverage, and leave them with no choice but to choose between a week’s worth of groceries and a doctor’s appointment. So Trump can put on his little show all he wants, but eventually the stage lights will go out, the cameras will leave, and Ohioans will still be stuck paying the price.”
When Care Force One rolled through Ohio, Representatives Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) and Marcy Kaptur (D-OH-09) joined health care professionals and local storytellers to sound the alarm on the health care crisis unleashed by the GOP, share their struggles, and lay out a plan to rebuild health care once Democrats regain control this November.
