Washington, D.C. – Today, Trump held another tired “healthcare affordability event” to gaslight the American people on how his and Republicans’ war on health care is spiking health care costs. This comes on the heels of Trump receiving the lowest approval rating on health care of any president this century, a direct result of voters knowing it is congressional Republicans and Trump who orchestrated their skimpier coverage, sky-high premiums, and disappearing care, all to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Roughly 15 million Americans are at risk of losing their coverage due to Republicans’ devastating cuts, and health care costs are skyrocketing for everyone, everywhere.
TrumpRx is nothing more than a publicity stunt. Across the country, Americans are struggling to afford prescription drugs, and this website won’t save most of them a single penny. Nearly half of Americans can’t afford to take their medications as prescribed. If Republicans were serious about lowering drug costs, they would expand the lower prices passed by Democrats in the Inflation Reduction Act to all Americans, instead of undermining the law.
In response, Protect Our Care Chair Leslie Dach released the following statement:
“No matter the amount of pitiful smoke-and-mirrors attempts to gaslight the American people, this announcement does nothing to reduce drug costs. It also does not address the fact that from every corner of the nation, Trump and Republicans’ skyrocketing health care hikes are forcing gut-wrenching choices.
“Small business owners are choosing between shuttering the storefronts they poured blood, sweat, and tears into building or dropping their coverage to make ends meet. Farmers are deciding between paying what amounts to their mortgage each month for insurance or risking that an accident while tending the field won’t wipe out their life savings. And parents are deciding between keeping a roof over their heads, putting food on the table, or paying skyrocketing health premiums. The political theater with TrumpRx is an insult to Americans who are struggling to make ends meet after Trump and Republicans pulled the rug out from under them and their families — all to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.”
