The Republican War on Health Care is Alive and Well
Washington, D.C. – The Trump administration has announced a rule that will make it harder for families to enroll in affordable health care coverage. The rule shortens the Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment period by one month and ends the ability for low-income families to sign up monthly instead of waiting for the enrollment period in the fall. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), between 750,000 and 2 million people will lose their health insurance if this rule goes into effect. The news comes as Republicans continue to block efforts to stop premiums from skyrocketing at the end of this year. Read more about the tax credits here. In response, Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse issued a statement:
“Another day, another attempt by Donald Trump to sabotage our health care system, raise costs, and rip away coverage. Millions of Americans depend on the ACA for affordable coverage, but Republicans want to take it away in their crusade to gut health care to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy. Trump is trying to finish what he started in his first term at the expense of hard-working families across the country.”
