Protect Our Care’s “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” Campaign Gives Voice to the Millions of Americans Rightfully Sick of Trump and Republicans in Congress Gutting Our Health Care System
Washington, D.C. — Sunday marks 100 days remaining until the November midterm elections, and health care has emerged as the defining issue. Republicans cut over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, and ripped away health care tax credits that helped millions afford coverage, all to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
From major cities to rural communities, families across the country are being crushed under the weight of spiking costs and lost coverage that Republicans caused. Recent polling from KFF finds that health care affordability remains at the top of voters’ minds heading into the election, with six in 10 adults saying they are worried about affording health care costs for themselves and their families. Over 8 million Americans have lost the coverage they relied on, and more than 1,100 hospitals, clinics, and providers have closed, made cuts, or are at risk of doing so — and the damage will continue to grow.
“In 100 days, voters get the final word,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “Republicans made their bed, choosing tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations over health care for hard-working families, and they did it knowing exactly what it could cost people. Republicans can try to lie through their teeth, but families across the country are reeling from the damage GOP cuts have caused. People are sick and tired of having to make impossible decisions like putting food on the table, keeping a roof over their heads, or keeping life-saving coverage. This election is a reckoning, and Republicans should expect one.”
