Washington D.C. – South Carolina is at the center of the worst measles outbreak in nearly three decades since the disease was officially eliminated in the U.S., “with more than 840 cases overwhelmingly in unvaccinated children and adults.” Public Health Watch, a project of Protect Our Care, called the outbreak the latest symptom of the Trump administration’s anti-vax agenda that has encouraged a dramatic dip in vaccination rates and opened the door for measles cases to soar across the country, now in 17 states so far this past year.

“The Trump administration has consistently played fast and loose with kids’ lives through their anti-vax, anti-science agenda, and the historic measles outbreak in South Carolina is the latest toll,” Kayla Hancock, Director of Public Health Watch, a project of Protect Our Care. “Even after measles ran rampant in Texas last year, the Trump-RFK Jr. HHS has continued to fear-monger the safety of vaccines without any credible evidence, leading to even higher rates of unvaccinated children. Secretary Kennedy has been the poster boy for anti-vax sentiment for years, then Donald Trump empowered him to put his unfounded ideology over medical science. Now, Secretary Kennedy refuses to take responsibility or action as more kids get sick from preventable diseases. Congress must step in and remove him before any more children are put in harm’s way.”
