Virtual Event Will Highlight Lawler’s Support for Trump’s Devastating Health Care Cuts
Rockland County, NY – Today, May 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM ET, healthcare advocates and workers will join Protect Our Care New York for a virtual press conference ahead of President Donald Trump’s planned visit to Rockland County for an event with Congressman Mike Lawler. Speakers will call out Mike Lawler’s decision to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Donald Trump and align himself with an agenda that has led to historic cuts to health care, squeezing New York families to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
Medicaid is the largest health insurance program in the country, covering over 68 million Americans, including almost 6.5 million New Yorkers. Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress made the largest health care cuts in history, gutting more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), putting 45 New York State hospitals and providers at risk of closing or slashing services, and raising premiums and costs for millions more. They are pulling the rug out from under New York children, seniors, people with disabilities, and working families who rely on Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires and major corporations.
As Lawler welcomes Trump to Rockland County, he is making a clear choice about where he stands and who he stands with. Lawler has turned his back on Rockland County families by embracing Trump’s health care agenda, even as it strips care from his own constituents and puts local hospitals at risk. Speakers will discuss the real-world consequences of these cuts for New York families while highlighting Lawler’s record of loyalty to Trump instead of the people he was elected to represent.
