Today, Protect Our Care is holding events in Arizona and North Carolina to mark the 16th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). As Trump and his allies continue to deal blow after blow to the ACA, their crusade is taking a devastating human toll: Premiums have now more than doubled for over 22 million Americans — hikes that are impossible for working families to afford. As a result, one million Americans have been priced out of coverage, and more will follow as the GOP’s premium pain becomes unbearable.
At the same time, congressional Republicans’ decision to gut $1 trillion from Medicaid and the ACA to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations has forced nearly 800 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers nationwide to shutter, be at risk of closing, or cut essential services. The American people have had enough of this madness. Come November, voters will hold to account those making care unaffordable and putting billionaires over people, all so the ultra-wealthy can cash in on their pain and misery.
