Last summer, when Trump and Republicans in Congress made the callous decision to slash $1 trillion from health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations, they knew exactly who would be caught in the crossfire. Today, families across the country are scrambling to hang on to their health care. Rural communities are bracing for hospital and clinic closures. Cancer patients are terrified they’ll lose their coverage in the middle of treatment. Expectant mothers are being forced to travel farther for maternity care. People with disabilities are encountering gaps in caregiving that allow them to stay in their own homes. These headlines represent our neighbors, our parents, and our kids, and they deserve better than having their health care gutted to write a check to the ultra-wealthy. Health care is the main issue driving conversation in packed town halls, community rallies, and around kitchen tables, and it will be the issue Republicans can’t outrun in this year’s midterm elections.
