Washington, D.C. — This October, Protect Our Care’s “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” campaign is hitting the road with Care Force One, making 36 stops across 15 states and traveling nearly 8,000 miles from Maine to Arizona, calling out Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress for taking a wrecking ball to our health care system in order to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
Beginning October 5 in Bangor, Maine, the four-week bus tour will travel through New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado, California, and Arizona, taking the fight directly to communities where families are hit hardest by rising health care costs and coverage losses. The tour comes as Americans are facing the fallout from Republicans making the largest health care cuts in history, slashing more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, and ripping away health care tax credits to bankroll tax breaks for the ultrawealthy.
At every stop, Protect Our Care will hear from patients, families, providers, advocates, and leaders about what rising costs and Republicans’ health care cuts mean in their communities, and what lawmakers need to do to fix it, including restoring tax credits to lower insurance premiums, reversing devastating Medicaid cuts, expanding Medicare drug price negotiations, and extending out-of-pocket spending caps for prescription drugs.
“Care Force One is hitting the road because Americans are sick of watching their health care get more expensive while Republicans make it harder to get the care they need,” said Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse. “For four weeks, we’re taking this fight straight to communities across the country. We’ll hear from the people living with higher premiums, lost coverage, shuttering hospitals, and impossible choices, and make sure the lawmakers responsible hear them too. Americans are sick of it, and we’re bringing their voices with us every mile of the way.”
The bus tour is the next phase of Protect Our Care’s largest grassroots campaign to date. Since launching, “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now,” Protect Our Care has brought together patients, families, providers, advocates, and elected officials for events across the country, including empty-chair town halls, storytelling events, and accountability actions.
