Families are being forced to make impossible choices between going to the doctor, paying for prescriptions, and keeping up with everyday expenses like rent or groceries. And the crisis is only getting worse. After Republicans slashed more than $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act and ripped away health care tax credits that helped more than 22 million Americans get covered, insurers are proposing another double-digit premium increase for 2027. In Arizona, Adena Hope Bank says she’s “furious and terrified” as she has already limited what she eats due to rising costs. In Pennsylvania, Donna Gerhard’s premium cost almost tripled compared to last year. Now, she and her husband are figuring out how to afford it, including pushing off replacing their 13-year-old car. As the damage from the GOP health care cuts spreads, our health care system is becoming more expensive and out of reach for hard-working people. Republicans made the choice to rip away health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations — and families are paying the price.
