Protect Our Care Will Release a New Report Detailing How GOP Medicaid Cuts Are Blowing a Hole in State Budgets
Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 9:30 AM ET, Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez, Colorado Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera, Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources Marvin Figueroa, Pennsylvania Secretary of Human Services Valerie A. Arkoosh, former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, and former Medicaid Director Daniel Tsai will join Protect Our Care to discuss the devastating impact of Republican Medicaid cuts across the country. Protect Our Care will release a new report during the call that outlines how cuts to Medicaid have driven up health care costs for working families, stripped health care from millions, and left over 900 hospitals and clinics closed or at risk of cuts or closures since the passage of Trump and Republicans’ big, ugly bill. While working families are being hit with skyrocketing premiums, higher out-of-pocket costs, and fewer options for care, Republicans in Congress continue to bankroll Trump’s wars of choice, fund ICE, and push for even more tax breaks for billionaires.
During the event, speakers will detail how these cuts are straining state budgets and forcing officials to make painful tradeoffs, from hiking taxes to cutting vital services. The discussion will also focus on the nationwide consequences of these cuts, including reduced access to lifesaving care and increased pressure on our local health systems.
