Washington, D.C. — Today, House Democrats, led by Leader Hakeem Jeffries at an event in Pennsylvania, laid out their “Fighting for An Affordable America” framework 100 days out from the November election, putting health care affordability front and center for American families. Health care costs have been top of mind for the American people since Donald Trump and Republicans made the largest health care cuts in history. Recent polling has underscored that point. KFF found six in 10 adults say they are worried about affording health care costs for themselves and their families. Gallup polling showed “the availability and affordability of health care” topped the chart of American worries about key issues and that half of U.S. adults can’t afford health care anymore. In an Axios-Ipsos poll, voters said they’re more likely to vote for candidates that support lowering health care costs.

“Leader Jeffries and House Democrats should be commended for putting health care at the center of their affordability agenda because it’s the most important issue facing American families today. Across party lines, voters are deeply concerned about rising premium costs, higher prescription drug costs, and whether they can afford the care they need. And we know it is no secret why health care is top of mind for American voters going into this election and why Democrats hold a 20+ point trust advantage on the issue: it’s because Trump and Republicans took a wrecking ball to American health care to fund tax breaks for billionaires. Now families are paying the price through higher costs, lost coverage, and hospital closures. If the conversation in this election is about making life more affordable, health care has to be at the center of it.”
