Washington, D.C. – This weekend, America celebrates its 250th birthday. But for millions, the weekend is also a painful reminder of Trump and Republicans in Congress passing the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” — a law that puts care at risk for seniors in nursing homes, sick kids, and moms. In that same bill, they also took away working families’ health care tax credits, more than doubling health insurance premiums for over 22 million Americans. Republicans made the largest cuts to health care in American history to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
One year later, the nation is engulfed in a health care crisis that worsens every single day. Already, eight million Americans have lost the coverage they relied on to stay alive and healthy, while 15 million people in total are set to lose health care in the years to come. Premiums are skyrocketing, families are scrambling for care as insurance companies flee marketplaces, and one in three Americans is cutting back on essentials to afford health care. On top of that, over 1,000 hospitals, nursing homes, maternity wards, and other critical providers are closing, cutting essential services families rely on, or are at risk of cuts or closure. While billionaires and big corporations get handed fat tax breaks, working America is in the midst of a health care crisis.

“In the so-called ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ Trump and Republicans set the health care system on fire, ransacking Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. The law engineered the largest upward transfer of wealth in American history on the backs of working people, the consequences be damned. It will go down in history as one of the most corrupt, billionaire-enriching laws ever to come out of Congress.
“Trump and Republicans knew of the pain and anguish the law would inflict on the American people. They knew that more seniors would be forced to split pills in half to ration medication. They knew that millions of sick kids would lose health care. They knew that soon-to-be moms would lose access to maternity care. At the ballot box in November, voters won’t forget that Trump and Republicans in Congress prioritized their wealthy donors over ensuring millions of working people could obtain quality, affordable health care.”
