Washington, D.C. – Last night, Trump-backed anti-vaccine candidate Ken Paxton secured the Texas Republican Senate nomination. But winning a primary doesn’t change his record, and now Texans get to decide if that record is one they can afford. For years, Paxton has treated health care not as something to protect, but as something to dismantle. Every lawsuit filed and every cut championed has come at a cost — and working Texas families have been the ones paying it.
Protect Our Care President Brad Woodhouse issued the following statement:
“Ken Paxton has spent his career waging war on Texans’ health care. He led the charge to overturn the Affordable Care Act and backed devastating cuts to Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. Now, hard-working Texas families are having their coverage ripped away as rural hospitals cut services or close their doors completely, forcing families to travel farther just to see a doctor or reach an emergency room. Paxton continues to champion a dangerous anti-health care agenda, siding with corporate interests over Texans who simply want affordable care and the peace of mind that comes with it.
“While Paxton has fought to take health care away, James Talarico has fought to protect it, defending coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, stopping surprise medical bills, lowering prescription drug costs, and standing with Texas families being crushed by rising costs. The contrast could not be clearer: while Talarico has worked to strengthen care for working families, Paxton has built his career around attacking them.”
