Hospitals across the country are buckling under the weight of devastating $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid made by Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. From rural communities to major cities, facilities are closing, cutting services, or stretching resources to the breaking point, leaving patients waiting longer, traveling further, or going without care altogether. Emergency rooms are overcrowded, maternity wards are shutting down, and critical services like mental health care are being scaled back or eliminated entirely.
During Black Maternal Health Week, the stakes couldn’t be clearer: more than 40 maternity care providers have already shuttered, putting the care of mothers and their children in serious jeopardy — a crisis Protect Our Care spotlit during yesterday’s press call featuring U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood (D-IL-16), U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Former CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-Lasure.
